Highlife artiste, Kwabena Kwabena has declared that he’ll never be a part of Ghana Music Awards until certain changes are made to it’s production.
Kwabena Kwabena who was on The Celebrity Fanzone according to Viasat1, stated that the event is poorly organised and that is what informed his decision to boycott it three years ago.
His main concern is the aspect where artistes come on stage to mime and do whatever they want instead of exhibiting some musicianship and great stagecraft.
He concluded by saying that until these things are changed, he’ll not be a part of the awards scheme.
“The VGMAs are the only time musicians have the opportunity to exhibit their talent and show who they are as musicians.
If people come to sit in the auditorium for close to six hours and we show nothing and all we see is the DJ and music and miming and all sorts of things are not arranged properly and music so poor in terms of sound, then that is not good.
This is what Ghana has to offer and we have to do it well. I’ve had problems with the music production for years and until that it is solved, until I see a music director for the show; who he has everything planned, I cannot be part of the scheme. What kind of awards is organized like that? You just can’t come to the stage and do what you like,” he stated.
